Who is this Darrin Bentley guy anyway?
It all starts here.
I’m Darrin and I want to thank you for stopping by and checking me out. Although you will hear about the show and my mission with Big Wig Nation (not to mention my life story) in this episode, I wanted to give you the quick and dirty right here.
I live in Northeast Pennsylvania with my beautiful wife and three AWESOME kids. I’m happy to admit that I have accomplished quite a bit in my life, considering how long I’ve been on this big blue marble. I’m really passionate about a lot of things in my life but business, music and film have always been very high on that list!
I’m an entrepreneur with quite a few successful ventures under my belt. For me, I’ve always had something working on the side, it’s just who I am. I’ve always been fascinated with success and how people become successful in their lives. Many people believe it’s all about who you know and some others will tell you ” it’s just luck”.
I don’t believe in luck and I don’t believe in coincidences
While I don’t pretend to have all the answers, I have learned there are definitely some common denominators between successful people and people who continually chase success, but never find it. I won’t go into too much detail here (hey, check out the episode), but I will tell you it all comes down to determination, belief and hard work!
In speaking with so many awesomely cool and successful people, I’ve learned these are just a few of the core traits they shared. Oh and don’t forget about passion, you HAVE to be passionate about what you’re doing!
The funny thing is, even though this might sound like common sense (and REALLY easy stuff to follow), you have to ask yourself, why do so many people fail? Well, there’s just a little bit more to it then that.
Oh the sweet Music
So I’m also a musician and taught myself how to play several instruments. I don’t read music and I never took a lesson but I must be pretty good because I’ve played in a TON of great bands and with a lot of successful musicians. I love being the Rock Star, what can I say🙂 I SOOO dig music, ALL kinds of music!
Then there’s Wall Street
I’ve been with the same Fortune 500, Wall Street company for almost 25 years! In this day and age, I know, it’s crazy! After spending over half my life in a successful (but unfulfilling) career on Wall Street, I decided I had all I could take and left my job to pursue my passion! Against the advice of so many well meaning souls, I turned my back on Wall Street and gave up what a lot of people would consider a successful career.
I guess it all depends on your definition of success.
Yes, I’ll admit this decision was prompted by a MASSIVE company layoff, but after all was said and done, I would have actually been in an even BETTER position had I stayed.
By today’s standards, I had a great job! I worked for a Fortune 500 company, nice six figure salary, six weeks vacation, 401k, pension plan, etc.
Unfortunately, all this came with a price……
my soul!
The moment you become “comfortable” with any part of your life, you’re basically saying, “I’m happy with not growing”! I’m pretty sure a lot of you guys reading this can relate to what I’m saying here. So without writing an autobiography, I will just say this…follow your passion! I know you hear this said all the time but if you’re not living with passion in your life, you’re not living!
I gave up comfortable to pursue the unknown
Today, I am happier then I’ve ever been in my life! I work for myself and turning down that job was one of the best decisions I ever made. It has honestly been one of the most rewarding experiences I could have ever hoped for. It’s not easy and it doesn’t come without it’s challenges but damn, at the end of the day, it feels good.
I hope you enjoy what I’m doing here and I really encourage you to, if nothing else, find that purpose in your life! If you are waiting for the “right time” to do something in your life, I can PROMISE you, that time will never come! We only have a short amount of time here guys, make it count!
I would really love to hear from you guys! Reach out to me! Send me an email, leave me some comments/feedback or just say whats up! So until next time, be AWESOME!
Peace!
